County purchases Cuchara acreage for public park

(Published: Feb. 2, 2017) The county closed on the purchase of 49 acres near the base of the former Cuchara Mountain Resort on Friday, January 27. County Commissioners say the land will be used as a public mountain park. Huerfano County purchased the land from QE Ventures, Inc. for $150,000 using funds to be donated by the Cuchara Foundation. La Veta’s Public Library thanked voters in a big way after last Tuesday’s results that saw passage of an increase in property taxes to benefit the library. Not only was there a banner proclaiming thanks at the door, the hours have now reverted to “normal” with the library open again on Mondays and Saturdays. They had restricted hours earlier this year due to budget crunches.
