Sheriff take-over wins by a handful of votes in Walsenburg

Sheriff Bruce Newman and his officers will take over law enforcement responsibilities in January within the city as well as providing coverage for the county. Huerfano County turns red as ballots are tallied in general election

Walsenburg’s sales tax and term limit questions go down

(Published: November 10, 2016)  In another blow to Walsenburg City Council, voters denied a sales tax increase of one percent for the next five years. Issue 2B had 494 voting in favor, and 897 opposed to the question. The tax was estimated to be able to generate about $300,000 annually for the city to use for services and economic development.
