La Veta RE-2 election is canceled as Director Eleanor Foley drops out

By Cathy Mullens –(Published: Sept. 14, 2017) In a surprise move Monday night Director Eleanor Foley took herself out of the running for school board and the November election was canceled.

The board moved by acclamation to appoint Director Ed Donovan and two new candidates, Polly Neldner and Larry Morgan, to the three open seats.

Foley addressed the board saying she withdrew because of the caliber of candidates running. “I had encouraged others to run for the board,” she said, “and I believe these candidates will continue with the progress this board has made.”

She said she will remain on the facilities task force and she thinks she is leaving the District in a much better place than when she first joined the board.

“You need to take a lot of credit for the progress of this board,” Donovan told Foley.
